Welcome to Chem Comm Blog

Chemistry is everywhere.  Pick two things you encounter every single day and explain how Chemistry has an impact on those things.  Be clear and specific (repeat answers will not receive credit).

  1. H2O and hydrogen are two major elements we encounter everyday. Hydrogen is a crucial component to the air we breathe, and H2O (water) (which may/may not include iron, chlorine, ect) is needed for the human body and organs to operate.

  2. Breathing is chemistry, because plants make oxygen through photosynthesis using carbon dioxide that humans breath out. And if you clean with anything containing bleach you are using the element Chlorine.

  3. We encounter Iron everyday in metal substances and even in cereal. We encounter chlorine in cleaning substances such as bleach when we wash our clothes !

  4. Chemistry is all around. We use it in the kitchen while cooking (chemical reactions), and we even use it in when dying our hair. For ex. Potassium is an essential key for plant growth and it is found in most soils. It is also a vital element in the human diet.
Also fluorine is an element we use everyday: even though it is one of the most highly reactive and aggressive elements, it keeps our teeth healthy (used in toothpaste and in tap water)

  5. Chemistry is used on a daily basis and can even be found in your body. There's iron in your blood to carry oxygen through your blood stream and to your body's cells. Without it we can't function the way we do. Another thing that we encounter everyday is nitrogen which we need for breathing.

  6. Chemistry Is very abundant and can be found in are daily lives often. For example we come across salt on a daily basis. Salt is a poisonous substance made up of chlorine and sodium. In a package of chips we use rancidity to make sure the chips don't go bad before we eat them.
